2024 Tom Regan Youth Community Activist Scholarship

The Royal Oak Area Democratic Club will be awarding a scholarship to a local graduating high school senior to support their college, vocational school, or other post-high-school education, training, or activism. This scholarship will be awarded to a student or students who demonstrate care for their community and a desire to act. The scholarship will be up to a $2,000 award to be decided on by the Royal Oak Area Democratic Club board members and awarded at the June Monthly Meeting on Saturday, June 1st.

Requirements: Applicants must be a 2024 graduating high school senior who lives in or is graduating from a school in Royal Oak or Clawson. Applicants must complete the required application materials listed below. Students will be considered based on their civic involvement, dedication to their community and their application submission. Applications are due by Wednesday, May 15th, 2024.

Application Materials: For this scholarship, applicants will be asked to submit the following:

  • Contact information

  • Updated List of Activities or Personal Resume

  • Email and Phone Number Contact for Two (2) Personal References

  • Response to ONE of the following prompts. Your response can be written or creative in nature (video, visual, musical, etc.) to best showcase your talents and ideas:

  1. Describe an occasion when you had to organize other people to solve a problem. How could you use what you learned to fight social injustice in the future?


  1. What do you consider the most pressing issue in your community? (Please define what you mean by “community”.)

2024 Scholarship Winner

Congratulations to Anna Schroeder, our 2024 scholarship recipient!

Anna has been involved in numerous extracurricular activities including the president of the National Honor Society, a member of Royal Oak High School's inclusion club, crochet club, Interact club, student council, cross country and track. Her prompt focused largely on her efforts to promote inclusion and partnerships between neurotypical and neurodivergent students in sports.
